Gender equality

Within the area of equal opportunities, gender equality deserves special attention. Women’s labour force participation is at an all-time high. But more needs to be done to address vertical and horizontal segregation, to combat gender stereotypes, and boost women’s economic empowerment. A better sharing of family duties is also central to this agenda, as are more investments in private and public (child) care facilities.

Higher levels of employment of women is not only good for the economy, but also in combating the gender pay gap and the gender pensions gap. Men are also part of the answer and should not be excluded from the discussions. It is for example important to encourage men to take on a more equal share of family responsibilities.
