EU action against Single Market barriers most welcome
Today the European Commission published its long-term action plan for better implementation and enforcement of Single Market rules and its report on Single Market barriers. This is a most welcome action as European business had insisted on reinforcing the Single Market governance infrastructure at EU and national levels.
BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer said: "European industrial policy and a circular economy can only deliver in a barrier-free EU single market with rules implemented on time, transparently and efficiently. European business wants the barriers down and wants the European Commission and EU member states to jointly take action to enforce the Single Market rules. European business will not stop pointing the finger at remaining barriers. The action plan and barriers report will help fighting growing protectionism and supporting a level playing field for business. Those politicians and administrations that put their feet on the brakes of deeper market integration must take into account that only a barrier-free EU single market will allow faster economic and social convergence in Europe, a goal that we all share."
