Meeting Vice-President Ansip and Commissioner Jourová on General Data Protection Regulation and Privacy Shield

On 19 December, BusinessEurope Deputy Director Guido Lobrano took part in a stakeholder meeting with Vice-President Andrus Ansip and Commissioner Věra Jourová to discuss the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Privacy Shield. Guido Lobrano stressed that the Commission should prioritise GDPR implementation and focus on achieving consistency and harmonisation, also through enhanced and effective dialogue with National data protection authorities. BusinessEurope is working closely with national federations to monitor implementation and overcome potential challenges. As regards the Privacy Shield, Deputy Director underlined that it is becoming a critical part of transatlantic trade and it is important that EU and US keep on cooperating to reassure stakeholders that the commitments taken will be upheld.
