Encouraging signs to strengthen the single market
Good progress on the delivery of the European Commission's Single Market Strategy was demonstrated today at a high-level conference in Amsterdam.
The Joint Initiative on Standardisation between public and private stakeholders will modernise the way standards are created. BUSINESSEUROPE welcomed this initiative as it encourages a market-driven approach and better involvement of industry at an earlier stage of the process.
BUSINESSEUROPE’s Director General Markus J. Beyrer commented: "Standards should be driven by industry for industry. We are happy to sign the Joint Initiative today and look forward to implementing its actions alongside other relevant stakeholders. As a key enabler in the development and application of standards business should be recognised as an important strategic stakeholder throughout the whole process."
Background
On 13 June, the Dutch EU Presidency and the European Commission held a conference in Amsterdam entitled "Working together to strengthen the Single Market for EU businesses and consumers". In cooperation with stakeholders, this aims to generate momentum to deliver an ambitious agenda for strengthening the single market in advance of the June European Council.
