for its Economics Department
The position:
BusinessEurope’s Economics Department works in close collaboration with experts in national member organisations to develop business views on issues such as macroeconomic policies, taxation, structural reforms, access to finance, and investment.
We are seeking an adviser to lead our high-profile work on corporate taxation. In this role you will work with our members, by organising expert working groups, to co-ordinate positions on key issues for business, in particular implementation in the EU of the OECD BEPS agreement through the European Commission's anti-tax avoidance package. You will be expected to ensure business views are well understood by policy-makers through extensive contacts with EU institutions, participation in conferences and written communication. You will also be expected to contribute to the broader work of the department according to your skills and experience.
Candidates for this post should have:
- A university degree in economics or a related area;
- Preferably a good knowledge of EU taxation issues and other EU economic policy issues;
- Good understanding of the functioning of the EU institutions regarding economic policy development, gained through experience working at the EU institutions, a trade association or consultancy;
- Excellent analytical skills, including an ability to assimilate the various aspects of an issue rapidly and deliver work to meet short deadlines;
- Ability to transform technical input into political messages and adapt to the audience;
- Ability to define and lead lobbying strategies;
- Ability to drive work forward on own initiative, working effectively as part of a team;
- Talent in negotiation and brokering compromises reflecting the general interest of all businesses on sensitive issues;
- Good networking skills and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
