Competitiveness Council
Improving competitiveness is essential to increase growth and employment in Europe. Mainstreaming competitiveness requires all EU institutions to consider the impact of all EU initiatives and legislative proposals on industry throughout the entire legislative process. It must be ensured that these different policy initiatives do not contradict one another and support competitiveness rather than obstruct it.
A strong industrial basis is an important growth driver for all economic sectors, including services. Paying special attention to industrial competitiveness is therefore important.
The Competitiveness Council has a key role to play in ensuring that European policy decisions support companies competitiveness. With the support of the High Level Group on Competitiveness and Growth, it should evaluate and monitor the competitiveness of Europe’s industry on a regular basis. It should also debate all important policy proposals with an impact on companies' ability to generate growth and employment and speak up when a measure imposes unnecessary burdens on enterprises.
BUSINESSEUROPE regularly addresses messages to the Competitiveness Council.
