EU ETS Market Stability Reserve: ENVI fails to strike the right balance
Today the European Parliament’s ENVI Committee voted on the EU ETS Market Stability Reserve. BUSINESSEUROPE Director General Markus J. Beyrer commented: Today’s decision fails to make the system work for every sector and business. It imposes an extra burden on energy-intensive and trade-exposed industries, without taking sufficiently into account the detrimental effect on their international competitiveness.' Any anticipation of the start date should be clearly coupled with strong and dedicated provisions on carbon leakage both for direct and indirect carbon costs. 'We urge the EU Council and policy-makers to achieve a much more balanced approach in the next negotiations', Beyrer added.
