EU Member States put EU innovation at risk

EU research and innovation projects are put at risk by Member States. If the Council fails to rapidly agree on the content of the future European research and innovation programme “Horizon Europe”, they will cause a substantial delay in developing essential and urgently needed EU projects. Exactly this seems to happen, if EU Member States’ ambassadors in Brussels will not be able to fully fix the architecture of the Specific Programme of Horizon Europe by tomorrow.

BusinessEurope Director General Markus J. Beyrer said: “Despite the clear sense of commitment from Ministers two weeks ago, negotiations risk not concluding on time. If Member States continue debating on the architecture, instead of fixing it, they will put Europe’s path to innovation at risk. If decisions are still delayed, EU companies will not get legal certainty to plan their research and innovation investments.”

Time is running out and negotiations among the three European institutions have to conclude by next week.
