WTO Director General in BusinessEurope

WTO Director General Roberto Azevêdo met BusinessEurope Director General J. Markus J. Beyrer during his first official visit to Brussels on 12 February. Mr Beyrer reiterated EU business support towards the multilateral trading system and hope that the positive momentum achieved in Bali will be maintained. “BusinessEurope has warmly welcomed the conclusion of the Trade Facilitation Agreement and we expect that prompt and concrete implementation will be already achieved this year. We remain strongly engaged with WTO and we commit to actively contribute to the new working agenda of the organisation” said Markus J. Beyrer. We will work in the coming weeks on better assessing the results of the Bali Ministerial and explore topics for the new work programme without neglecting the DDA. Market access remains a key objective to improve trade opportunities for all WTO members. BusinessEurope is preparing a visit to Geneva in the first semester of the year as a follow-up of the meeting with Mr Azevêdo.
