TTIP: a question of legitimacy
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) will mostly benefit SMEs in the EU and the USA; it does not lack legitimacy – contrary to what many argue. BusinessEurope on 24 March participated in a roundtable discussion organised by IE Business School to debate who will benefit from TTIP and what interests are being considered by negotiators on both sides. As the US economy is growing at a faster pace than that of the EU, TTIP can set the right framework to ensure that a larger number of European companies, particularly SMEs, will be able to gain from this growth. This will translate into benefits for workers – more investment means more and better jobs – and for consumers a larger choice of services and goods at competitive prices.
