Shareholders rights: 'comply or explain' must be preserved

In a joint message to members of the European Parliament ahead of next week’s plenary vote, BUSINESSEUROPE, ecoDa and the EuropeanIssuers have stressed that the current revision of the shareholders rights directive should not lead to an erosion of the 'comply or explain' principle in Europe. This principle allows member states and companies to adapt rules to their national and individual environment. It has been the unanimously accepted basis of corporate governance in Europe for the past 20 years.
