Holding on to the “comply or explain” to remain competitive

Over-prescriptive regulation discourages companies from becoming listed and staying listed. There is already a worrying trend of companies delisting from stock markets. The ‘comply or explain’ principle makes it efficient for companies to meet the national and international challenges they face. BUSINESSEUROPE calls on the European legislator to get the balance right on the shareholders rights directive proposal. “This is one of the building blocks of a capital markets union”, Francesco Chiappetta said during the 16th European corporate governance conference in Riga.
