Croatia to strive for "a strong Europe in a world of challenges"
Croatia will hold the presidency of the Council of the EU for the first time since it joined the EU, from January to June 2020. During the semester, Zagreb will have to deal with important issues such as the future European industrial strategy, the new multi-annual framework for the EU budget and the UK’s departure from the EU. For BusinessEurope, the EU must strive for economic sustainability, since it is the very basis for environmental and social sustainability. In line with our flagship paper "Prosperity, People, Planet - Three pillars for the European Union agenda in 2019-2024", we urge the Croatian Presidency, more particularly, to pursue policies that will enable European business and industry to flourish and innovate, and to ensure that the post-2020 European budget is future-oriented and puts greater emphasis on research, development and innovation.
