BusinessEurope writes to Commissioner de Gucht and US Ambassador Froman on TTIP and standards
In light of the TTIP negotiations, BusinessEurope on March 25th 2014 adopted a position paper highlighting the important role that standards can play in tackling regulatory divergences between the EU and the US. Rather than completely overhauling each other’s standardisation systems, we urge the EU and the US to facilitate technical cooperation in subjects and sectors where industry on both sides is willing to engage in joint work. There is also a need to increase transparency with regards to how legislation and standards interact, especially on the US side. Cooperation on standards-related matters will benefit businesses of all sizes and increase transatlantic trade flows.
